Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province is moving towards completing multimodal transport infrastructure

According to the plan to organise the technical infrastructure system, in the planning for Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province for the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, the province will complete the synchronous multimodal transportation system consisting of roadway, waterway, railway and airway.

Accordingly, the province will build a synchronous and continuous transportation system, connecting with the national, regional and intra-provincial transportation systems, to form a smooth and effective transportation network. This transportation system will well serve people’s needs for transportation and solve the problem of congestion in connecting transportation infrastructure serving freight forwarding activities. This will increase investment attraction and act as a driving force for BR-VT's economic development.

Regarding roadway, the province will focus on developing the projects that building the national road network in the province implemented according to Decision 1454/QD-TTg dated September 1, 2021 of the Prime Minister approving the road network during the period of 2021 - 2030, vision to 2050, including: Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, Ring Road 4 of Ho Chi Minh City, National Highway 55, National Highway 56, National Highway 51, National Highway 51C and coastal road.

The province has been pursuing the target that by 2030, there will be 22 provincial roads in the province, including 12 existing routes and 10 additional routes according to the planning. Regarding 12 existing provincial roads, they will continue to be upgraded, the directions of some sections will be adjusted, and some sections that have not yet been formed will be constructed and extended to ensure technical specifications, facilitating investment, and forming a smooth transportation network. Regarding 10 new additional provincial routes: a number of existing roads will be adjusted and upgraded along with some new routes to be constructed to form a smooth traffic network, including: DT992B (Phuoc Hoa - Cai Mep road); Phone 992C (Road 965); DT994B (Ba Ria - Vung Tau main road); DT994C (section of Highway 51 converted into a local road); DT994D (Road 30/4); DT994E (Hoang Sa road); DT995C (Nghia Thanh - Cu Bi road); DT996D (Chau Duc - Long Dien road); DT999B (Ho Coc - Hoa Hiep road); and Detour road in Con Dao district.

Regarding seaports, 07 terminals and offshore ports will be constructed according to Decision 1579/QD-TTg dated September 22, 2021 of the Prime Minister approving the Master Plan for development of Vietnam's seaport system during the period of 2021 - 2030, vision to 2050. The province has been pursuing the target that by 2030, Vung Tau international cruise port will be completed and put into operation.

Regarding inland waterways, the inland waterway port system will be developed according to Decision 1829/QD-TTg dated October 31, 2021 of the Prime Minister approving the Planning for the Inland Waterway Infrastructure during the period of 2021 - 2030, vision to 2050. Accordingly, the inland waterway transport corridor connecting to BR-VT, including: Vung Tau - Thi Vai - Ho Chi Minh City - My Tho - Can Tho route; Vung Tau (Cai Mep Thi Vai seaport) – Ho Chi Minh City – Tay Ninh route; The coastal waterway transport route serving transportation of goods from the seaports in the province to the Southwest region and Ho Chi Minh City. The provincial-level inland waterways in the mainland area on 25 rivers and canals of all levels from level I to level VI with a total length of 110.19km will be developed.

The inland waterway port system including 50 existing ports and terminals in the mainland area will be maintained; 14 port and inland terminal projects under construction will be completed; the planning for 30 inland port and terminal projects will be added. In Con Dao district, the planning for a group of specialised terminals serving tourism in Hon Ba District, Dam Tre Bay, Hong Dam District and Dat Doc Beach will be added.

Regarding railway, the connecting railway network will include Bien Hoa - Vung Tau railway from Trang Bom Station to Vung Tau Station with a length of approximately 84 km and a width of 1,435 mm; of which, Bien Hoa - Thi Vai section is double track, Thi Vai - Vung Tau section is single track. Regarding urban railway, after 2030, the province will research and invest in building 03 lines including: Line 1 operating mainly on the coastal road and surrounding Vung Tau City; Line 2 connecting the coastal urban areas of Vung Tau City, Long Hai District, Phuoc Hai District, Loc An District, Ho Tram Commune, Binh Chau District; and Line 3 connecting Vung Tau City - Ba Ria City - Phu My District (this route is planned to connect with Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai province).

Regarding airway, the province will develop Con Dao airport and two specialised airports including Go Gang airport and Dat Do airport.

In addition to promoting the construction and completion of connecting transportation infrastructure systems, the province also focuses on plans to arrange and complete construction of energy infrastructure; power supply; drainage infrastructure; irrigation infrastructure; water supply; information and communication infrastructure.

With these plans, BR-VT expects to achieve the goal of comprehensive and sustainable development, becoming one of the important driving factors of development of the Southeast region, as well as a national marine economic centre, and maintaining its position in the group of 10 provinces with the highest GRDP scale and contribution to the state budget.
