Viên wins two silvers at US Swim event

Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên finished the Arena Pro Swim Series 2017 Alanta with two silver medals in the US yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên finished the Arena Pro Swim Series 2017 Alanta with two silver medals in the US yesterday.

In the last day of competition, the Vietnamese swimmer came fifth in the women’s 200m individual medley (IM) event with a time of the 2min 15.58sec.

Her male teammate Lê Nguyễn Paul ranked sixth in the 100m backstroke on 55.20sec.

On Sunday, Viên under the jersey of Florida’s St. Augustine team, finished second the 400m IM with a time of 4:45.25.

Lakeside’s Brooke Forde pulled away from Viên over the freestyle leg and came away with the first victory of the night with a time of 4:43.64.

Texas A&M’s Bethany Galat, the third-place finisher at last year’s Olympic Trials, finished in that same third-place spot with her time of 4:48.33.

Viên’s first silver was in the 1,500m freestyle event. She completed the race after 16:28.18, ranking behind Michigan University’s Ryan G, who swam 16:25.64.

Rose Bi, Ryan’s teammate, was third with 16:31.52.

Viên also competed in the 200m backstroke, 400m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Paul also took part in different categories but failed to score a medal. — VNS
