HCM CITY — The HCM City People’s Committee has decided to reduce government workers’ allowances by 33-50 per cent with retrospective effect from January 1 and add the money saved to relief packages meant for people directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Salaries are calculated by multiplying a base salary with a pre-determined salary co-efficient and adding allowances and bonuses.
The decision issued on Tuesday (April 21) makes cuts to the allowance co-efficient rate.
The move seeks to help poor and unemployed people, who are likely to be severely affected, and support the military amid shrinking government revenues as a result of slowing economic growth.
The committee said that it would consider a return to old co-efficients after the pandemic is brought under control. — VNS
