QUẢNG  NINH — Investigators in the northern coastal province of Quảng Ninh have arrested Lê Duy Hạnh, 56, incumbent chairman of State-turned-shareholding Quảng Ninh Thermal Power JSC, for alleged abuse of power.

A representative of the provincial police told local media that the agency has not yet formally filed charges against Hạnh, though they have already taken legal proceedings in the case.

On March 22, Hạnh was summoned by local police to clarify information regarding forging documents related to the operation of the company.

Since 2014, Hạnh had served as the general director of Quảng Ninh Thermal Power. In 2018, he was appointed the chairman of the board of directors.

He had previously worked for Phả Lại Thermal Power Co Ltd in the northern province of Hải Dương, and was said not to have committed any legal violations during his time there.

Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Hạ Long City, the company operates as a subsidiary of State utility firm Electricity Vietnam Group. It owns and runs a thermal power plant with a total capacity of 1,200MW that is able to produce 7.2 billion kilowatt hours annually. — VNS
