HẢI PHÒNG Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has approved a new bridge to replace the downgraded Sông Hóa floating bridge connecting Hải Phòng City with Thái Bình Province.

PM Phúc assigned Hải Phòng’s People’s Committee to find an investor, allocate capital and ensure the project’s quality and speed.

Hải Phòng City has already upgraded highways 10, 37 and Road 354 to connect the city with Thái Bình and Nam Định provinces.

However, the floating bridge is the only one on Highway 37 connecting Vĩnh Bảo and Tiên Lãng districts in Hải Phòng City with Thái Thụy and Tiền Hải districts of Thái Bình Province.

The bridge was built in the 1980s and is four metres wide, so traffic jams are common.

Now it is a serious safety threat.

Hải Phòng City and Thái Bình Province both said the new bridge was necessary to ensuring traffic safety and connecting the city and the province. VNS
