12 people in hospital after workshop fire

THÁI BÌNH — Twelve workers are being treated in hospital after a fire at a workshop that makes gas lighters.

The blaze started at Hoa Việt Co Ltd in Nguyên Xá Commune, Đông Hưng District, the northern province of Thái Bình around 11am on Thursday.

Immediately after the alarm was raised, fire prevention, fighting and rescue forces were present at the scene to conduct firefighting.

The fire was extinguished at about 1pm.

The Đông Hưng General Hospital said that at about 11.45am, it received eight patients with serious burns who were transported by personal cars.

They had injuries on many areas of the body such as the face, chest, abdomen, arms and legs.

By 12.15am, four more patients were taken to the emergency room, bringing the total number of cases to 12.

After receiving the patients, the hospital assigned doctors and nurses to promptly provide intensive resuscitation, pain relief, sedation, intravenous fluids and bandages for the patients.

A preliminary assessment by the hospital showed that no victims suffered from respiratory failure and were all treated actively and urgently.

Following the wishes of the company and the victims’ families, by 2.30pm, the hospital transferred 11 cases to the Thái Bình Provincial General Hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. — VNS
