ĐÀ NẴNG — The central city officially opened a 19km western ring road which helps connect National Highway No 14B and the Hồ Chí Minh Trail in the first phase, completing the city’s urban traffic network with National Highway 1A in the west of the city.

The four lane road, took six years to build and cost a total of VNĐ1.5 trillion (US$60 million).

It will, the Director of the city’s managing board of traffic investment and construction projects, Nguyễn Minh Huy said, create smooth traffic links from the city’s inner traffic zone and key roads, through to industrial parks, as well as to the under-construction Liên Chiểu deep-sea port.

It is also one of several key projects to improve connections in the western side of the city as well as contributing to the development of the central Highlands region, he added.

Earlier this year, the city began construction of another road and bridge to link the southeast urban zone with the National Highway 1A system and a coastal road connecting the national road system and Liên Chiểu port.

Infrastructure projects aimed at making Đà Nẵng an attractive investment and tourism destination and a ‘green and smart’ city by 2025 include the relocation of the railway station, upgrading sea ports, the expansion of the Hải Vân Tunnel and a new Liên Chiểu port and Kim Liên rail freight station. — VNS
