HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam always attaches importance to and looks to strengthen the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with the Dominican Republic, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn told a Dominican guest.

During a reception on Tuesday for General Secretary of the United Left Movement (MIU) Party and Minister of Regional Integration Policies of the Dominican Republic Miguel Mejia, who is on a working visit to Việt Nam, Sơn highly valued the Dominican Republic's government for appointing a resident ambassador to Việt Nam in 2022 and opening its embassy in the country last year.

He said that these efforts have become bridges to promote increasingly effective and substantive development of the bilateral relationship.

The Vietnamese official conveyed State President Tô Lâm's congratulations to President Luis Abinader on his re-election for the second consecutive term in the general election held on May 19.

He expressed his appreciation for the contributions by Mejia to the development of relations between the two countries.

For his part, Mejia emphasised that his visit aims to further deepen the fruitful political and diplomatic relations, and expand the economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries, especially in potential fields such as trade, agriculture, telecommunications, construction, energy, and oil and gas industry.

The two sides agreed to closely coordinate and actively take measures to strengthen the bilateral relations in the time to come through Party-to-Party, State-to-State, and people-to-people diplomacy channels, including promoting high-level delegation exchanges, connecting and supporting businesses, enhancing cooperation, and supporting each other at international organisations and multilateral forums, especially the United Nations. — VNS
