New Japanese consul in Đà Nẵng to promote business, exchanges

ĐÀ NẴNG — Mori Takero, the newly appointed as Consul General of the Japanese consulate in Đà Nẵng, aims to foster a closer relationship between Japan and Việt Nam as well as connecting businesses and forming local partnerships.

Takero received a warm welcome from the city’s party secretary, Nguyễn Văn Quảng, at a reception last week, and paid visits to Đà Nẵng University, Đà Nẵng City’s Union of Friendship Organisations, the Japan-Đà Nẵng Friendship Association and the Japanese Exchange Centre in the ancient town of Hội An.

Takero joined Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988 before taking charge at the Japanese Embassies in Thailand in 2003 and Egypt in 2006.

He was appointed as deputy director of Emergency and Humanitarian Assistance Division, International Co-operation Bureau in 2009 and Deputy Director, Press Division in 2012.

Takero acted as Deputy Chief of Mission at the embassy in Greece in 2014 before taking charge as a Counsellor at the Mission to the UN in New York in 2016.

He was assigned as the Director of the Development Assistance Policy Planning Division in the International Cooperation Bureau in 2020.

Over the past few years, Đà Nẵng has become more important to Japan’s diplomatic and economic policy due to its location at the entrance to the East Sea and its excellent connection to the East-West Economic Corridors that link Việt Nam, Laos and Myanmar as well as the southern economic corridor.

Japan promoted its Consular Office to a General Consulate after two years, following its establishment in 2022.

The Consulate General in Đà Nẵng will officially offer Japanese entrance visas for all people living in the provinces of Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Thừa Thiên Huế, Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi, Bình Định, Kon Tum, Gia Lai and Đà Nẵng City starting June 1.

The central city was seen as the first city in central Việt Nam to promote cooperation with Japanese partners in high-quality workforce training.

Japanese investors have poured US$1.04 billion into 228 projects in Đà Nẵng, ranking first in the list of 40 foreign direct investment (FDI) countries in the city, a report from the city’s investment promotion agency revealed.

Sumitomo Corporation Việt Nam and local partner BRG Group have been implementing surveys on infrastructure development of seaports, airport and industrial parks in Đà Nẵng.

Mikazuki Hotel Group of Japan was seen as one of the most successful investors in Đà Nẵng when it officially opened its $168.16 million Đà Nẵng Mikazuki Resort & Spa.

Đà Nẵng has inked deals with Kisarazu, Kawasaki, Sakai and Yokohama, and the city has hosted an annual Việt Nam-Japan Cultural Exchange Day since 2014. - VNS
