HÀ NỘI — Workshop on Thái ethnic hand embroidery, an heirloom technique mastered by Thái ethnic artisans in Quỳ Châu Disrtict, Nghệ An Province, will be held on July 1.
The workshop will be conducted by masterweaver Sầm Thị Tình, a Thái ethnic woman who was born in Hoa Tiến traditional brocade village in Quỳ Châu. She grew up with her grand-mother, mother and other Thái women who were expert artisans. She now lives in Hà Nội to sustain and develop the traditional craftsmanship for Hoa Tiến Brocade Cooperative led by her mom since its foundation in 2010.
During the workshop, attendees will learn how to embroider traditional Thái patterns on their textiles and learn about the meaning of the patterns such as mythical animals (dragon, phoenix), wild animals (elephant, horse, deer, turtle, tiger), plants, flowers and objects of daily life.
The workshop, which will take place from 2pm to 6pm at No. 203, 2nd floor, Apartment Building CT5A, Mễ Trì Thượng, Nam Từ Liêm District, will be translated into English and French.
