HÀ NỘI  As many as 100 artists are presenting their paintings at an exhibition dedicated to traditional lacquer art in Hà Nội.

The exhibition Vietnamese Lacquer Art is showcasing 100 works created by different generations of Vietnamese artists including Nguyễn Huyến, Nguyễn Tiến Chung, Văn Bình, Phạm Văn Đôn, Trần Văn Hà, Trần Duy, Ngô Minh Cầu, and Nguyễn Đức Toàn. Works by Saeko Ando, a Japanese artist living in Việt Nam, are also on display.

The Việt Nam Book of Records (Viet Kings) recognised it as “the exhibition of traditional lacquer art with the biggest number of authors”.

“It’s our honour to curate and introduce the artworks created by remarkable Vietnamese artists,” said Nguyễn Xuân Cường, president of Chọn’s Auction House.

“It’s a chance for us to acknowledge the achievements of the artists and to show our responsibility in promoting lacquer art and Vietnamese fine arts.”

The exhibition aims to educate people on traditional lacquer art. It shows the importance of lacquer in traditional art and honours the creativity and sophisticated skills of the artists.

“Lacquer is an important heritage of Vietnamese culture and art. The exhibition introduces the paintings on various subjects such as festivals, flowers, women, landscapes, abstract and portraits,” Cường said.

The opening ceremony was set to take place yesterday, however due to the novel coronavirus outbreak; it was not held. The exhibition is open for free until March 28 at Chọn’s Auction House, 63 Hàm Long Street, Hà Nội. — VNS
