HÀ NỘI Twenty-five contestants have competed at the Tea Masters Cup Việt Nam in Hoàng Su Phì District, northern mountainous Hà Giang Province.

The event is co-held by the Việt Nam Tea Association (VTA) and Hà Giang Province as part of Hoàng Su Phì Culture Tourism Week 2019.

Businesswoman Nguyễn Thị Bích from Hà Nội is one of the contestants demonstrating her tea brewing skills on Thursday.

Bích has researched trà đạo (tea ceremonies) since 2010. This is the first time she attends the event.

To prepare for the contest which concludes on Friday, Bích has chosen shan tuyết tea and an ancient-style pot for her competition. It is a kind of tea that is picked from young buds and young leaves on hundred-year-old trees.

The contestants have to compete in four categories of tea making, tea and snack, tea tasting and tea mixology.

Tea Masters Cup Việt Nam jurors are from Ukraine, Australia, Taiwan and Việt Nam.

The competition has been held annually since 2015, honouring young tea masters and popularising tea ceremonies.

Last year, the International Tea Masters Cup was held in the central province of Thừa Thiên-Huế with the participation of nearly 30 contestants from 15 countries and territories.
