HÀ NỘI — A night featuring classic and contemporary dances by Vietnamese and South Korean artists will be held on December 8 in HCM City.
The dancers from Korean Ambiguous Dance Company, Kim Yong Geol Dance Theatre and HCM Ballet Symphony and Orchestra (HBSO) will perform four dances at the show, entitled Ballet Duet Gala Night - Classic to Contemporary.
The show is held by the Korean Cultural Centre as a part of a dance exchange project between Việt Nam and Korea.
"Cultural exchange between Việt Nam and Korea has been taking place actively in recent years," said the centre’s director Park Hye-jin. "However, there are few dance events. I hope dancers from the two countries will have more co-operation opportunities in future."
Ballet Duet Gala Night - Classic to Contemporary will open with a modern dance entitled Obliviate. The dance is choreographed by Kim Yong Geol based on German composer Max Richer. The choreographer will dance with dancer Kim Da Eun.
Geol is a ballet star who has revived the popularity of Korean ballet. He is the first Korean dancer ever to enter world-class company by receiving the bronze medal at the Moscow International Ballet Competition in 1997. He also won gold medal at the Paris International Ballet Duet Competition in 1998. He is currently a ballet teacher at the Korea National University of Arts.
In the show, Geol and dancer Kim Bo Ram will perform Bolero, a ballet by Maurice Ravel of France. Ram is the artistic director and choreographer of Ambiguous Dance Company. He is one of the most popular contemporary dancers in Korea.
A contemporary performance by Nguyễn Hà Lộc and Nguyễn Hồng Hạnh from HBSO will feature a dance of a couple living in a small house. The dancers will perform jazz movements based on ballet.
An extract from The Sleeping Beauty will amaze audiences with the performance of Kim Yeun Gyu and Han You Jeung. The dancers will perform act three, entitled The Wedding.
The show will begin at 7pm at Bến Thành Theatre, 6 Mạc Đĩnh Chi Street, District 1. Tickets can be picked up at 145 Phạm Thái Bường Street, Tân Phong Ward, District 7. For further ticket information, call 02854123268. — VNS
