HCM CITY — The nearly 90-year-old Bình Tây Market in HCM City’s District 6 will reopen in November after being repaired and upgraded for two years.
A Chinese businessman built Bình Tay Market in 1928 and donated it to the city. The market was built using modern techniques but with traditional East Asia architecture. It is one of the most beautiful markets in the city.
But over time its structure badly deteriorated, exposing steel beams, causing walls to be damaged and the roof to leak into shops.
It was closed in late 2016 and renovation began last December at a cost of VNĐ104 billion.
The work was delayed by a year but has finally been completed. — VNS
