HÀ NỘI — M6 group will hold a concert tonight at the Việt Nam Youth Theatre to celebrate its 10th birthday.

The group is the only one of its kind in Hà Nội. Professional and amateur musicians Ngô Tự Lập, Giáng Son, Nguyễn Lê Tâm and Nguyễn Thắng, as well as Nguyễn Vĩnh Tiến, Trần Đức Minh and Nguyễn Tuấn, are members of the group.

The concert will introduce new songs by these musicians, which are different to those of other artists.

Two songs of each musician will be performed by young singers, such as Đinh Mạnh Ninh, Thùy Chi, and Đông Hùng, at the concert.

The group is led by Lập, who works at the Việt Nam National University’s International Francophone Institute. His song titled Hà Nội Hiphop was performed at Bài Hát Việt (Vietnamese Song) – a popular television show in 2007.

Lập is not the only well-known amateur musician in M6, architect Tiến is also popular. Tiến has won top prizes at Bài Hát Việt.

Last but not the least amateur is Tâm, an artist working at the Công An Nhân Dân (Police) newspaper. He is known for his band which he set up at the end of 1990s. His song titled Phép Lạ Hàng Ngày (Daily Magic) is among the most popular songs for children.

The last four group members are Son, Thắng, Minh and Tuấn, who are graduates from the Việt Nam National Academy of Music.

Son is an established musician. She is currently teaching at the Hà Nội Cinema and Theatre College, prior to which she was part of a girl band. She has won prizes at Bài Hát Việt and her latest album Bóng Tối Jazz (The Shadow of Jazz) was awarded the Devotion Music Award this year.

Minh was awarded by the Việt Nam Musicians’ Association in 2015 for a music piece titled Cánh Rừng Mùa Thu (Fall Forest). He also won a prize at Bài Hát Việt.

Thắng is a traditional musician. His score for the first Vietnamese-3D animated cartoon Giấc Mơ Của Ếch Xanh (Dream of Green Frog) earned him best music award at the 15th Việt Nam National Film Festival.

M6’s two-hour concert will be accompanied by a performance by the Am Band. The group will also launch its third album titled Đêm Nhiệt Đới (Tropical Night) at the concert.

The concert will begin at 7.30pm tonight on 11 Ngô Thì Nhậm Street. — VNS
