The 10th traditional horse race in Bắc Hà District, in the northern province of Lào Cai, attracted thousands of tourists and locals over last weekend. As many as 54 horse riders flocked there from mountainous villages in the province. Horses competing specialise in carrying goods and people in the most remote high mountains, where no cars can reach. Jockeys are local farmers, who control the horses without saddles and without special protective gear, except helmets. Their horses can run as fast as 60-70km per hour. — VNA/VNS Photos Hồng Ninh
