HCM CITY — HCM City is strengthening efforts to combat climate change by implementing a number of adaptation solutions to mitigate environmental risks, focusing on flood control, urban greening and sustainable infrastructure.

The municipal People's Committee sent a report on implementing the task of adapting to climate change in the city last year to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

According to the report, the city has introduced a water-adaptive urban design handbook to enhance water quality and drainage efficiency.

It has formed research working groups for urban development and climate change adaptation.

Tam Phú Park in Thủ Đức City was selected as a case study to evaluate the benefits of nature-based solutions in integrated urban management.

The city continues to develop the Flood Prevention and Wastewater Treatment project from 2020 to 2045.

Accordingly, the city has completed technical infrastructure works, such as drainage, by using annual public investment capital to urgently resolve the local flooding situation, ensuring drainage system ventilation, and promptly resolving the deterioration of the drainage system.

In addition, the city is expanding community green spaces, with plans to add 2,087sq.m of public greenery.

In the cultural and tourism sector, it is launching various programmes to promote environmental protection and climate change adaptation among local communities and tourism businesses. — VNS
