BẾN TRE - Farmers in Bến Tre are taking their products directly to consumers through Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, resulting in greater recognition for them and higher sales.

Bùi Hoàng Trọng, who sells ornamental plants in Vĩnh Thành commune in Chợ Lách District, gets 30 to 40 orders daily through his YouTube channels.

He said his family used to face difficulties in the past due to its reliance on traders to buy and transport the plants to other provinces.

But in 2019, when his son started posting pictures of their products on Facebook and began to get orders, it opened up a new avenue for the family, he said.

Now they sell 7,000-8,000 ornamental plants a year, over 60 per cent through social media platforms.

Đặng Văn Dũng, a seller of apricot plants in Hưng Khánh Trung B Commune, Chợ Lách District, said he sells around 10,000 of them a year for VNĐ100,000-300,000, 80 per cent through social media and the rest through traders.

Recording videos and sharing them on social media is a key aspect of his sales activities.

He said while some farmers have their own channels, others seek help from them to film and post videos to boost sales.

Live-streaming to sell ornamental plants has gained popularity and enables young people like Lê Hoàng Tấn to earn a stable income with ease.

Lê Hồng Ánh, the owner of Ánh Cái Mơn Garden in Chợ Nghĩa District, said that he collaborates with livestreamers like Tấn to sell his plants

Nguyễn Văn Bàn, chairman of the province Farmers Association, said farmers in the province have recently started utilising social media and e-commerce platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, YouTube, and TikTok to sell their products directly, and are doing well.

In Chợ Lách District, flower and ornamental plants are available throughout the year, with 50 per cent sold through online channels.

Local authorities regularly organise training programmes to help farmers utilise e-commerce. - VNS
