The 2022 Fansipan Rose Festival will be held from April 23 to May 23, 2022, with the theme ‘Rose land in the clouds,’ along with many art activities rich in northwest identity. They will all bring a unique rose experience that visitors have never experienced.
Being a part of Sa Pa Summer Festival 2022 and first held in the country's largest rose valley, with an area of 50,000 m2 inside Sun World Fansipan Legend Tourist Area of Sun Group, the Fansipan Rose Festival 2022 is a gathering place of more than 10,000 climbing roses, with more than 1.5 hectares of ancient Sapa roses, and nearly 100 varieties from many countries such as England, France, Japan and beyond.
There will rarely be any space for a unique Rose Festival like in Fansipan, where the mist in the early morning or late afternoon covers and embraces brilliant flower clusters; the view looks like clouds blooming with roses. This year's festival has the theme "Rose land in the clouds."
A “rose sign” welcomes visitors to the tourist area
Visiting the festival is like getting lost in a paradise full of colours and fragrances of hundreds of roses leading the way from the gate to the rose valley and around all corners of the tourist area. The most unique and impressive are the red and pink climbing roses.
These flowers have always been the specialities of Sapa during April and May. Visitors can see many ‘rose signs on the roads to Sapa Town on the arches, along the sidewalks, and around the central lake.
Sapa climbing roses bloom in red and pink clusters, each laden with hundreds of flowers, forming crimson and light pink arches. They fascinate visitors every summer. This year, Sun World Fansipan Legend Tourist Area is a gathering place of Sapa climbing roses, when more than 10,000 climbing roses will bloom everywhere in the tourist area.
Climbing roses falls at two sides of the mountain railway
When visitors start their journey to Sun World Fansipan Legend from Sapa Town by train to Muong Hoa mountain, they will be excited as they see two sides of the mountain railway, with the climbing roses fully covered blooming like a sea of silk ribbons.
Stepping out of the station on the mountain train to the departure of Fansipan cable car station, a sky of overwhelming roses will open in front of their eyes.
Sapa climbing roses are crimson red, casting heart-shaped and dome-shaped scenes as a prominent coat across the valley. Walking under those climbing rose arches is like getting lost in the middle of heaven on earth.
According to the resort's representative, this year's Sapa climbing roses bloomed earlier and more brilliantly than in other years and will reach their fullest during the April 30 and May 1 holidays.
Along with the climbing roses, Sapa ancient persimmons are also in their most fruitful flower season. In the tourist area, visitors will be able to take pictures with the ancient persimmons with domes up to several meters wide and hundreds of flowers blooming at the same time. There are ancient persimmon roots, which are a few dozen to a hundred years old, brought back from the remote villages of Sapa.
Various can see rare roses cultivated and blooming around the tourist area.
Standing with the native roses to show off their fragrances are more than 100 types of flowers, including rare and difficult varieties to grow, such as "million-dollar rose" Juliet, Aoi rose, Black Baccarat, Catalina, Golden Celebration roses, Maurice Utrillo, Rouge Royale, Eclair, and Spirit of Freedom.
Many activities will take place among all festival events with the theme "Land of roses in the clouds." One of the highlights that promise to attract the special attention of visitors will be the parade of roses.
Within two fixed time frames, the morning and afternoon of April 23, the festival's first day, there will be a rose parade consisting of 48 flower carts decorated with roses grown in the tourist area, controlled by a cast dressed in traditional costumes Sapa ethnic groups.
The parade will depart from the station to the cable car and along the streets of the town centre. The floats and actors will stop at three points during the journey: Aha Cafe, San Quan, and Sun Plaza Cau May, so visitors can take pictures and watch the artists performing beside the floats.
The main stage of the festival, held at the departure station of the cable car by the Rose Valley, will take visitors through different levels of emotions. Being amazed by a space made of millions of roses, immersing in joy when watching the artistic performances of roses, or feeling curious when discovering and then falling in love with the northwest culture, all feelings will be brought out through the Red Dao people’s wedding recreation performance staged by the Lao Cai Provincial Cultural and Arts Union.
The festival atmosphere will not only be jubilant on the Rose Valley campus, where millions of roses bloom. Visitors everywhere in the tourist area can see the miniatures and grand scenes made from roses. The swings blooming with roses, fountains, or hearts made from roses; all create various check-in spaces only available in Fansipan; visitors will want to get lost in this flower land forever.
The 2020 ‘Horse hooves in the clouds’ race
In addition to the rose parade, there will also be the fourth "Horses Hooves in the Clouds" race, taking place from April 29 to May 2, 2022, with competitions among the 30 best jockeys in the northwest area from Na Hoi - Bac Ha, Simacai, Tuyen Quang and Bat Xat - Lao Cai.
In the romantic setting amidst the overflowing roses, visitors will enjoy the show of the best horses in the northwest. Interspersed with thrilling races in the morning, there will be a brilliant parade of racing teams in the afternoon, with flower flags overwhelming the sky, redrawing the northwest scene in horse races from hundreds of years ago. This is the first time the race is combined with the rose festival, promising to bring exciting and poetic experiences.
Nguyen Xuan Chien, Director of the tourist area, said: “During the periods we stopped welcoming guests due to the epidemic, we put all efforts to bring visitors to Sapa, an immersive rose paradise.
"Today, that wish has come true. Fansipan rose valley will not only create a beautiful highlight and attract a large number of tourists to Sapa, but the rose festival and a series of events and activities expected will help Sapa Lao Cai to quickly recover and make a strong breakthrough."
The 2021 “Dance in the clouds” show
According to the representative, after the Rose Festival, from July-September 2022, Sun World Fansipan Legend will bring back the unique show ‘Dance on the Clouds’. This is something that many visitors loving the northwest are eagerly looking forward to. Such admiration comes thanks to the choreography, the costumes, and the music of this show, which will elevate northwest culture to a new level.
In 2019, ‘Dance on the Clouds’ set a record as an "art performance showing the most unique northwestern cultural characteristics in Viet Nam."
