HCM CITY — Fifty-four scholarships of US$350 each were awarded by the Korean company Lotte to students from nine universities in HCM City at a ceremony on Wednesday.

The scholarships are given to students who have excellent marks but live in difficult circumstances.

Speaking at the ceremony, the executive director of the Lotte Scholarship Foundation, Lee Jung Wook, said that scholarship for 10 years had contributed to training talented Vietnamese and strengthening the Việt Nam-Korea friendship.

Trương Thành Hạo, a student at Hoa Sen University, said the award “gives great moral support for students to overcome difficulties and achieve their goals”.

Lim Jae Hoon, the Korean Consul General in HCM City, told the students that he hoped they would study hard and achieve their dreams.

Since 2008, the foundation has granted hundreds of scholarships to university students in Việt Nam.

On April 10, 78 students in Hà Nội also received scholarships. — VNS
