THỪA THIÊN- HUẾ — A scaffolding collapsed in the central province of Thừa Thiên- Huế leaving 11 construction workers injured on Sunday.
The case has raised concerns regarding safety at construction sites in the province.
The scaffolding set for the construction of a gas station in Trường An Ward in the province’s municipal Huế City collapsed on Sunday morning, left seven workers trapped at the site.
Witnesses said the scaffolding collapsed when the workers were moulding a concrete porch at a height of some 3m at around 8am in the morning.
Firefighters and rescuers spent nearly four hours to rescue the trapped workers, of whom 11 were sent for treatment to a local hospital. Of these, 10 were discharged with light injures while a woman, who was working under the scaffolding, continues to receive medical attention as she had sustained heavy injuries.
Col Hoàng Long, head of the city police, said the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collapse, as well as to ensure workers’ safety once the work is resumed.
Two men representing the investor and contractor at the site have been detained for investigation.
Construction activities are at their peak in Huế thanks to the sunny days. At the locality, contractors often use timber to make scaffoldings instead of steel. — VNS
