HÀ NỘI — Thái Sơn Nam won the National Futsal Cup title after defeating Hải Phương Nam 2-1 in the finals yesterday at the Đà Nẵng’s Tiên Sơn Sports Palace.

Thái Sơn Nam were considered a stronger team as they were the national league defending champions, and they also defeated their rivals in last year’s finals, with the same result.

However, Thái Sơn Nam started carefully, playing in counter-attack, and they found an opener with a close tap-in by Đắc Huy in the middle of the first half.

In the second half, Trần Danh Phát tipped the score to 2-0 for Thái Sơn Nam after a counter-attack. Phát then became the player of the tournament.

Hải Phương Nam tried to narrow the result, switching to play power pressing.

They created a number of chances but only Tấn Phát succeeded with a long-distance finish at the end of the match.

“Thái Sơn Nam deserved the victory. We took our opportunities and used suitable tactics against our rivals,” said coach Nguyễn Bảo Quân.

Thái Sơn Nam brought home their second National Cup trophy and a bonus of VNĐ100 million (US$4,500).

Sài Gòn FC won the bronze medal.

The champions were also the most fair-play team of the tournament.

Ngô Đình Thuận earned the title of “best goalie.”

Sanna Khánh Hòa won the best scorer award, with seven goals. — VNS
