ĐÀ NẴNG — More than 200 leading oncological doctors and experts discussed cancer diagnostics and treatments at a two-day scientific forum in Đà Nẵng City on August 6 and 7.

The event "Cancer diagnostic and treatments: Going Beyond for Patients in challenging times” was jointly organised by the K Hospital and Roche Pharma Vietnam.

The forum was an opportunity for participants to discuss and update solutions in cancer management for three popular types of cancers in Việt Nam, which will help to prolong overall survival and disease-free progression for cancer patients and decrease the burden on caregivers and families.

“Technological advances in diagnosis and treatment have made an important contribution to improving the quality of life and survival time for cancer patients. Scientific forums with participation of leading cancer experts are valuable platforms for the healthcare professionals to exchange experiences and share the most up-to-date solutions, contributing to improve the efficiency of care and treatment for patients as well as reduce the burden on the patient's family and society,” said Prof. Lê Văn Quảng, Director of K Hospital.

Participants discussed solutions in cancer management for three popular types of cancers: breast, liver and lung cancer.

Key topics discussed were the New Era in HER2-positive Breast Cancer Management; Multi-disciplinary perspectives on optimizing patient outcomes in HER2-positive early breast cancer; the right treatment at the right time for Unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma; Comprehensive management of lung cancer; and strategy of personalised treatment for NSCLC patients.

Lennor Carrillo, General Director of Roche Pharma Vietnam said: “As a global leader in healthcare, Roche is committed to working together to improve patients’ lives and advancing better health at a lower cost of the societies."

"We are honoured to accompany K hospital to organise this meaningful scientific conference and believe that the valuable experiences and effective treatments shared through this forum will contribute to improve overall outcome for patients.”

In Việt Nam, the rising burden of cancers is a major health concern.

According to the National Cancer Institute and GLOBOCAN, cancer in Việt Nam has tripled in the past 20 years, from 68,000 cases in 2000 to 182,563 in 2020.

In 2020, there were 122,690 deaths from cancer - 18 times the total number of deaths from traffic accidents and three times the total number of deaths due to COVID.

Cancer patients have to cope with overwhelming difficulties. Many patients can neither access highly effective therapies nor afford to pursue treatments without financial support.

Cancers also create overwhelming burdens on patient families, caregivers, doctors and health systems.
