HCM CITY — Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình on Monday visited the 175 Military Hospital in HCM City on the occasion of Việt Nam Physicians Day, which falls on February 27.
Speaking at a meeting with hospital officials, he praised the tremendous efforts by physicians and other health workers there to provide medical care to the public and the armed forces, especially in the country’s islands.
The hospital has deployed three doctors, six nurses and one engineer to work at the medical centre in the island district of Trường Sa (Spratly).
Bình told the hospital personnel to maintain their efforts to improve the quality of treatment and be prepared for emergencies.
He urged the hospital to foster the use of technology in treatment and become a modern healthcare complex.
Major General Nguyễn Hồng Sơn, director of the hospital, said every effort was being made to adopt advanced medical technologies and train personnel.
He sought Ministry of National Defence and HCM City Party Committee instructions to set up a multiple function emergency centre that can reach patients by air, road and water.
Last October, doctors from the Field Military Hospital No 1 left HCM City to take part in a UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, he said. — VNS
