HẢI DƯƠNG — Eight people died and five more were injured in a truck crash early Monday afternoon on National Highway 5 in Kim Lương Commune, the northern city of Hải Dương.
Chairman of Kim Lương Commune People’s Committee Vũ Ngọc Uông said the victims were commune officers who were walking to visit the commune’s martyrs’ cemetery.
They were hit by a 2.5-ton truck on the sidewalk of the national highway. It was reported that seven victims died on the spot, while another died on the way to hospital.
Deputy Prime Minister cum head of the National Committee for Traffic Safety Trương Hoà Bình sent his condolences to the victims’ families.
He also asked authorities to resolve the traffic jam caused by the accident.
Bình instructed Transport Minister Nguyễn Văn Thể and vice head of the National Committee for Traffic Safety Khuất Việt Hùng to visit the scene and deal with the aftermath. — VNS
