HCM CITY  HCM City Police announced on Sunday that they had arrested an American Vietnamese woman and started criminal proceedings against her on charge of kidnapping two children for US$50,000.

Trương Hương, 50, admitted to the police that she was partly responsible for the kidnapping of two children---Trần Hoàng M.A, 7, and Trần Hoàng B.N, 5, on March 7. Both have American nationalities.

The father of the two kidnapped children, Trần Hoàng, and a domestic helper, Lâm Thị Phương D., were summoned by the police for investigation.

The two children (who are sisters), were reportedly kidnapped on the night of March 7. They had left school in the afternoon but did not return home. Their family received a blackmail message.

A surveillance camera showed the domestic helper picking up the children after school and sending them away in a motorbike taxi.

During investigation, the domestic helper of Hoàng’s family told the police that Hương, an acquaintance to the family had asked her to do so and that she had no idea about the kidnapping.

On February 9, the police found the children in a rental room in Tân Bình District. They were allegedly given sleeping tablets.  VNS
