ĐẮK LẮK (VNS) — Four employees of Đắk Lắk Province’s Cư Kuin General Hospital have been suspended from work for at least 15 days for causing a patient to lose her right leg.

The four staffers, who have been charged with irresponsibility and lack of professional knowledge, are Trịnh Đức Lam, deputy director of the hospital, Dr Y Tâm and two nurses Lê Thị Long and Vũ Thị Kim Len.

On March 6, Lê Thị Hà Vi was taken to the hospital after she was injured in a road accident on the way back from school.

Vi was diagnosed with a bone rupture on the right knee and a plaster cast was put on her leg.

The girl said her leg was painful and it became swollen that night. Vi’s family asked the doctors to remove the cast, but they refused.

They removed it only two days later. Her family had continuously asked the doctors to transfer her to a higher-level hospital as her leg had become more swollen with multiple blisters, but they were ignored.

Five days later, Vi was moved to the provincial general hospital, and then to Chợ Rẫy Hospital in HCM City, where doctors had to amputate her right leg as it had become dangerous.

Doãn Hữu Long, director of the provincial health department, said the department asked Cư Kuin General Hospital to suspend the concerned health staff and to quickly report the case to the department. — VNS
