HÀ NỘI — All eight students of the Vietnamese national team competing in the 2024 Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) bagged medals, including one gold, one silver and six bronzes.
The gold medal went to Thân Thế Công from Bắc Giang High School for the Gifted in Bắc Giang Province.
The silver medal was awarded to Hà Duyên Phúc from Lam Sơn High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hóa Province.
Bronze medals were awarded to Nguyễn Nhật Minh from High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, Việt Nam National University, Hà Nội; Nguyễn Thành Duy from Trần Phú High School for the Gifted in Hải Phòng City; Trương Phi Hùng from Bắc Giang High School for the Gifted; Nguyễn Thế Quân from Phan Bội Châu High School for the Gifted in Nghệ An Province and Hoàng Tuấn Kiệt and Trần Vũ Lê Hoàng, both from Lam Sơn High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hóa Province.
The 24th APhO, held from June 3 to 10 in Malaysia, drawing the participation of 208 contestants from 27 countries and territories.
Contestants underwent two days of examinations, each lasting five hours.
This year's theoretical test was based on modern and practical applications of physics, such as fountains, fibre optics, and research results published in the renowned journal Nature on astrophysics.
The experimental part involved experiments with gyroscopes, highlighting their practical applications in precise positioning for maritime aviation and self-balancing devices.
The Ministry of Education and Training praised the team’s performance, highlighting Việt Nam’s continued success at the APhO.
Việt Nam first participated in 2000, with its best result in 2018, winning four gold medals. — VNS
