HÀ NỘI — The Vietnam Social Security (VSS) office used more than VNĐ45.444 trillion (US$1.96 billion) from the unemployment insurance fund to pay employees and employers over the past two years, given serious COVID-19-induced difficulties facing production and business.

In the context of the pandemic, the Prime Minister issued a series of policies on social and unemployment insurance in support of employees and employers. Among them was a support package worth over VNĐ30 trillion from the unemployment insurance fund under Government Resolution No. 116, the largest sum of direct cash aid ever given.

In 2020-2021 and the first five months of 2022, the VSS has spared no effort to quickly deliver the aid packages to its beneficiaries.

The VSS said it allowed 2,760 units with 374,126 employees to suspend their retirement and survivorship fund payment, which was valued at VNĐ1.913 trillion.

As of May 27, the VSS also paid VNĐ23.5 billion on funding to support training to maintain jobs for 5,038 employees at 36 units. — VNS
