HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has signed a decision approving the establishment of a National Steering Committee to ensure Việt Nam's commitments at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).

PM Chính is the head of the Steering Committee, while Deputy PM Lê Văn Thành is the deputy head.

The Steering Committee will perform the function of helping the Prime Minister to research, direct, coordinate, and handle important interdisciplinary work related to Việt Nam's commitments at COP26.

The Steering Committee is also tasked with helping strengthen coordination of climate change response activities among ministries, sectors and localities, and cooperation between Việt Nam and international organisations, development partners and countries.

The Steering Committee will review and fine-tune relevant policies, laws, strategies and plans; promote administrative reform to create a favourable environment; and attract investment in developing infrastructure to respond to climate change.

It will also direct programmes, projects and prioritised tasks to respond to climate change, and promote energy transformation to fulfill Việt Nam's commitments at COP26.
