HÀ NỘI — An oil-on-canvas painting by HCM City–based designer Tia-Thủy Nguyễn has sold for US$100,000 in an online auction by Sotheby’s.
The auction session, titled (RED) Auction 2018 for the Global Fund, aimed to raise money to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS among people living in the outskirts of the Saharan region, Africa.
The painting was the only included work from Việt Nam. It is titled Sương Mù Đỏ Thẫm (Dark Red Fog) (160x160cm) and features a foggy, red sky.
Designer Tia-Thủy Nguyễn is the founder of The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre, a popular venue for artists in HCM City’s District 2.
The auction gathered big names in the art world like Jeff Koons, Sean Scully, Ai Wei Wei, Wangechi Mutu, Sir Jony Ive, Marc Newson, Christo, Marilyn Minter, Frank Gehry, Guillermo Kuitca and Teresita Fernández. — VNS
