HCM CITY— Famous musician Bảo Chấn of HCM City, who played a key role in Vietnamese contemporary music, has released his new album on vinyl record (analogue recording).

The album, Nơi Bình Yên Đã Qua (A Peaceful Mind), makes Chấn’s comeback to recording after two decades away from the studio.

It is produced by Gia Định Audio in co-operation with Đức Trí Records.

The work features nine top hits from the 1990s and 2000s that made Chấn’s fame.

It features young singers Cece Trương, Lân Nhã, Diêu Ngọc Bích Trâm and Hakoota Dũng Hà.

Pop idols Uyên Linh, who won Vietnam Idol 2010, Mỹ Hạnh and Lê Hiếu are also included.

CLASSIC HITS - Famous songs by Bảo Chấn, a well-known musician in the 1990s and 2000s, are featured in a new vinyl album released in HCM City this weekend. Photo courtesy of the producer.

Chấn, 72, was a pioneer in harmony and sound mixing, which were still new in the industry in the 1980s and 90s.

He has composed more than 70 songs. His music combines traditional and western styles, using Vietnamese folk elements.

Many of his hits, such as Đêm Nay Anh Mơ Về Em (I Dream of You Tonight), Giờ Đây Em Biết (I Know) and Bên Em Là Biển Rộng (By Your Side is the Wide Sea), won top prizes at national music competitions and awards presented by the HCM City Television and HCM City Voice of the People.

"Listening to Chấn’s songs on a vinyl record is a good experience. You can touch his music,” said Vietnamese-American Trần Tuyết Lan, a fan of Chấn.

Chấn and his producer, Đức Trí, a graduate in composing from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, spent many days in the studio to perfect the album.

“My songs are still fresh thanks to the performance by young singers today,” said Chấn, who has more than 40 years in the industry. —VNS
