HÀ NỘI — A book commemorating the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Agreement to end the war with America and restore peace in Việt Nam has been published by the Vietnam News Agency in association with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The book 1973 Paris Peace Accords - A Turning Point Towards Peace with a bilingual English-Vietnamese edition aims to deliver both domestic and foreign readers a significant amount of understanding that is both relevant and helpful.

It features the background of the Paris Conference from Việt Nam's perspective, the implementation of the agreement as well as opinions of leaders, scholars and experts.

An article by Nguyễn Thị Bình, former Vice State President, head of the delegation of the National Front for the Liberation of South Việt Nam, who represented the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Việt Nam to sign the accords, is one of the book's highlights.

The 196-page book also comprises 260 photographs and documents given by the National Archives Centres, the Vietnam News Agency, domestic museums, press agencies, and event witnesses.

The Vietnam News Agency Publishing House said they hoped the book's inclusion of rare archival materials would bring readers closer to the events that marked a glorious era in the history of the Vietnamese revolution and diplomacy.

Signed on January 27, 1973, the Paris Peace Accords were a victory for the Vietnamese people and the international solidarity movement that the country was involved in. It ended the war in Việt Nam, confirming the success of the nation’s resistance.

The agreement, signed between the Government of the Democratic Republic of Việt Nam (North Việt Nam), the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Việt Nam, the Republic of Việt Nam (the Saigon administration) and the United States, ended America’s direct military envolvement in the war in Việt Nam. — VNS
