Over 388,000 car licence plates put up for auction in September

HÀ NỘI — The fifth national auction for car licence plates started on Thursday with 388,389 plates put up for auction, according to the Traffic Police Department.

The list of plates from 63 provinces and cities will be open for bidding for one month.

Of the total list, more than 56,000 plates are from Hà Nội and nearly 54,000 are from HCM City.

The starting auction price has been kept at VNĐ40 million (US$1,616). The price will increase by increments of VNĐ5 million.

For each successfully auctioned car licence plate, the auction service fee paid to the property auction organisation is calculated at 8 per cent of the starting price.

In addition to the auction service fee, the auction fee paid to the property auction organisation is VNĐ10,000 per car licence plate put up for auction.

Several government departments have been assigned to inspect and monitor network security and information safety as well as prevent intrusion during the auction.

These include the Department of Cyber ​​Security and Prevention of High-Tech Crime, the Department of Telecommunications and Cryptography, the Department of Information Technology and the Department of Technical Services under the Ministry of Public Security.

As of September 4, a total of 207 car plate auction sessions have been held nationwide, according to the Traffic Police Department.

More than 1.2 million car licence plates have been put up for auction, with 35,563 being successfully purchased at a value of over VNĐ3.2 trillion.

Plates with lucky numbers like 51K–88888, 30K–55555, 11A–11111, 72A–77777, 88A–66666, 36A–99999 and 22A–22222 won high winning bids with prices ranging from over VNĐ5 billion to VNĐ15 billion. — VNS
