A 63-year-old woman and her daughter have graduated at the same time after studying for four years at the HCM City Open University.

Nguyễn Thị Bích Ngọc said that holding a degree in economic law had fulfilled her dream.

Ngọc’s happiness was doubled because her 38-year-old daughter Nguyễn Thanh Hiền also received her degree at the same time.

Ngọc and Hiền studied from distance through the Economic Law Faculty. Earlier, Hiền had graduated from the English Faculty of the Hà Nội University of Languages and International Studies under the Việt Nam National University.

Ngọc now works as deputy director of a community learning centre in District 12 in HCM City.

The 63-year-old graduate said that she would use the knowledge to help residents with legal questions.

“When I was young, my studies were interrupted for many reasons. After I'd managed to sort those issues out, I was eventually able to continue my studies,” said Ngọc.

Ngọc believes that studying is not just for young people.

“I regret not going to university earlier,” she said. — VNS
