Wild football celebrations across Việt Nam

No nation in the world loves football more than Viet Nam.

No nation in the world loves football more than Việt Nam.

If you want proof, just have a look at some photos and videos of what felt like the entire nation out celebrating the national team’s victory over Malaysia in the AFF Cup final on Saturday.

It was a huge party on the streets of Hà Nội, car horns, fireworks, national flags and football chants, while Hải Phòng erupted with flares.

The traffic in Hồ Chí Minh City was frozen with all roads filled with fans. It was the same in Nha Trang and Đà Nẵng cities and all across the nation, as fans chanted deep into the night.

Even hospital patients got in on the celebrations. A video clip of a girl covered in the national flag while sat on the back of a motorbike was spread widely across social media. She was also holding another flag, and attached to that flag’s staff was a bottle of IV fluids. They say laughter is the best medicine, so lets hope she enjoyed herself out on the streets.

Elsewhere on Phú Quốc Island, police received a report about three missing school drums after the victory. (Many schools in Việt Nam use school drums instead of bells).

The security guard of one school said he had just left his guard room which houses the drums for a few minutes, before returning to find them gone.

“Some students probably took it to celebrate the football win,” the guard said.

The guard might be wise to invest in a loudspeaker, as the national side have another big tournament coming up in January, and you best believe the country will be ready for another party by then. — VNS
