NGHỆ AN – A forest fire broke out yesterday in Nghi Lộc District’s Nghi Kiều Commune in the central province of Nghệ An, destroying dozens of hectares of forest.
Local residents told the Giao Thông (Transport) newspaper that the fire started at about 10am yesterday and quickly became uncontrollable. Local communal authorities have mobilised hundreds of people to put out the fire.
It took nearly three hours to get the fire under control, as hot weather stoked flames in the highly flammable pine forest, local authorities said.
Also yesterday, a fire broke out at Rồng Mountain in Quỳnh Lưu District, affecting 5ha of pine forest.
Earlier, the northern province of Thanh Hóa reported two fires, destroying 10ha of pine forest.
The causes of the fires are being investigated. – VNS
