HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam won their second gold medal at the World Wushu Championship on November 20 in Texas, the US.

Once again it was Đặng Trần Phương Nhi who stepped on to the top podium for the women's nanquan event.

Her near perfect performance received 9.786 points from judges to take the gold medal. 

He Jianxin of Hong Kong took silver with 9.780 points and Tasya Dewi from Indonesia earned bronze on 9.753 points.

"Honestly, before leaving for the US, my coaches and I only hoped that iI could perform without making any mistake," said Nhi,

"I did not set a high target here because I am still young and I would learn a lot from the 2023 championship. 

"In the first day of competition, I was surprised that I took silver in the nandao event. I was really happy about it. Now, I have taken two golds, I have really surprised myself."

It was second title for the Vietnamese martial artist after she triumphed in the women's nangun on November 19 at the Fort Worth Convention Centre.

It was a big jump for the 19-year-old who earned 9.666 points placed No 7 at the Asian Games in China in September.

"In every tournament, especially the Asian Games, I competed against strong rivals. I collected experience and strengthened my mind," said Nhi, the youngest member of Việt Nam in the US event. 

"I have developed in different fields, I dare to express myself more and become more confident.

"I am still young and I think that I have to learn more from my senior teammates about technique, competitiveness and spirit. My targets will be to perfect my skills for the next events."

Also on November 20, Việt Nam's veteran athlete Hoàng Thị Phương Giang won bronze in the women's daoshu. 

Giang placed below Liu Xin of China and Loh Ying Ting of Malaysia.

In the last day, former world champion Dương Thúy Vi will take part in the women's jianshu and quianshu events.

Currently, Việt Nam have had two golds, one silver and one bronze ranking fourth in the medal tally. VNS
