First COVID-19 death in HCM City

HÀ NỘI — HCM City has recorded its first death related to COVID-19.

The 37-year-old woman passed away on Wednesday, making her the 49th death in Việt Nam due to the pandemic, announced the Ministry of Health.

She was patient 5,463 and lived in District 3, HCM City.

The patient had been suffering end-stage chronic renal failure and was on peritoneal dialysis every six hours at home. She also had heart failure and hypertension.

She tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on May 25 and was treated at the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

She was treated with endotracheal ventilation, continuous dialysis, antibiotics, antifungal medication, antivirals, anticoagulant medication and received a blood transfusion.

However, her condition gradually worsened and respiratory failure gradually increased.

The cause of death was announced as sepsis complications, septic shock with heart failure, hypertension, end-stage chronic renal failure and COVID-19. — VNS
