ĐÀ NẴNG — A coin was removed from a four-year-old girl’s stomach 14 hours after she swallowed it in Đà Nẵng City.

Dr Đăng Phục Hoàn Mỹ-Đà Nẵng Hospital said on Tuesday that a team of doctors had successfully removed the coin via an endoscopy within 30 minutes of the girl arriving in the hospital on Monday.

He said the patient was lucky as the coin had not reached the intestine, even though the patient had the coin and food in her stomach for 14 hours.

He warned that parents should not leave children to play with coins or small toys, and they should be taken to the hospital as soon as possible if they swallow toys.

In May, doctors from the hospital also helped remove a toothpick from a woman’s anus after she had swallowed it while sleeping. — VNS
