HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Health today confirmed three more COVID-19 patients, including a medical worker, bringing the total number of cases in Việt Nam to 116.
The 114th case is a male patient, 19, Vietnamese, living in Hoàng Mai, Hà Nội. The patient was a student in the Netherlands returning home on March 15 on flight SQ176 (transiting in Singapore).
His test upon entry on March 15 was negative and he was sent to an isolation facility in Sơn Tây District, Hà Nội.
On March 19, he had a fever, sore throat and was transferred to the Central Tropical Diseases Hospital branch in Đông Anh District for further isolation and treatment. A test on March 21 by the Central Tropical Diseases Hospital was positive and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology also confirmed his test results as positive for SARS-CoV-2.
The patient is being isolated and treated at Central Tropical Diseases Hospital branch in Đông Anh District. He is in a stable condition.
The 115th case is a woman, 44, Vietnamese, living in the Czech Republic. The patient is the daughter of patient number 94, and one of five people in the same family returning from the Czech Republic to Việt Nam on flight SU290.
The patient entered Việt Nam at Nội Bài International Airport on March 18 on the same flight (SU290, seat 28C) as her mother, patient number 94 (SU290, seat 28A) and patient number 93 (SU290, seat 27B).
Test results by the Hà Nội Centre for Disease Control recorded the 115th patient’s sample as negative on March 18 and she was sent to an isolation area in Bắc Giang Province with patient number 94.
On March 20, the patient was transferred to the Central Tropical Diseases Hospital in Đông Anh District where her test was positive, and then the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology also confirmed her sample as positive for SARS-CoV-2.

The 116th case is a male physician, 29, Vietnamese nationality, working at the emergency department of the Central Tropical Diseases Hospital branch in Đông Anh District.
He has taken part in work for COVID-19 epidemic prevention at the hospital since January 31. The man screened and treated suspected COVID-19 patients, as well as participated in emergency care for patients in severe condition. During his work, he was provided with full personal protective equipment. After work, he stayed in the isolation area for medical staff in the hospital.
On March 19, the patient showed symptoms of a sore throat. On March 20, he showed more symptoms of coughing, muscle aches and fever.
On March 21, he started his self-isolation in the emergency department's buffer zone. His sample tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 by the hospital and was sent to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for further confirmation.
The patient is being isolated and treated at the Central Tropical Diseases Hospital in Đông Anh District in stable condition.
All health workers working with patient number 116 have been placed under surveillance. First tested on March 21, all staff were negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
He is the third health worker to test positive for SARS-CoV-2 in Việt Nam. Previously, the health ministry reported two nurses from Hà Nội-based Bạch Mai Hospital as the first medical workers in Việt Nam to test positive for the virus. — VNS
