HCM CITY — More than 22,000 young officers and soldiers from the armed forces in HCM City are participating as volunteers in the 13th Hành quân xanh (Green Military Operations) Campaign between June 23 and August 4.
Attending a kick-off ceremony held on last Sunday (June 23) in Tân Phú District, deputy chairman of the municipal People's Committee, Ngô Minh Châu, appreciated achievements and efforts that campaign volunteers made over the last years.
“Volunteers need to spread the spirit of the campaign to create more opportunities for them to practice and improve their skills,” he said.
During the campaign, the volunteers upgrade alleys, roads and irrigation systems, offer free health exams and medicine to disadvantaged residents, and build charity houses.
They also participate in activities to promote environmental protection, prevent and fight child abuse and law violations, build new-style rural areas and a “civilised urban” lifestyle, ensure social security, and protect the environment.
Training courses on fire-prevention equipment and fire fighting skills, drowning prevention and rescue skills, and necessary self-defense skills are also organised in localities.
The campaign is one of a number of summer activities of the HCM City-based Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. — VNS
