HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Transport has allowed the BOT National Highway 6–Hòa Lạc–Hòa Bình Ltd Company to start collecting road toll fees on Hòa Lạc-Hòa Bình Highway from May 3.

Drivers using the 26km-long highway will have to pay from VNĐ35,000 (US$1.5) to VNĐ180,000 ($7.7) per trip.

The toll fee collection is expected to last 27 years, six months and nine days so the highway's investors can recoup their investment.

With investment of VNĐ2.7 trillion ($116 million), the highway opened for traffic last October to shorten travel time from Hà Nội to the northern province of Hòa Bình to one hour, compared to the two hours it takes on National Highway No 6.

Constructed under a build-operate-transfer model, the project is aimed at meeting the demand for transport on the road corridor between the northwest region and Hà Nội and increase the efficiency of the Thăng Long Boulevard route. — VNS
