HÀ NỘI — Some 5,000 poor and underprivileged people will get health check services free for the early detection of cancer.

The early cancer detection campaign will be held across the country in 2017, aimed at helping people become more aware of cancer, Dr Đoàn Hữu Nghị, director of Thu Cúc International General Hospital, said.

The campaign will provide health checks to detect breast cancer and other diseases in a woman’s mammary gland, and prostate cancer and other diseases in a man’s lungs.

"Vietnamese people in the provinces rarely undergo regular health checkups and tests for early detection of cancer. Breast cancer is the most common and has the death rate in females, while prostate cancer is one of the 10 most common cancer and is one of the leading causes of cancer death in males ," Dr Nghị said.

The campaign will kick off on March 11 at the Kinh Bắc Culture Centre in the northern province of Bắc Ninh from 10am to 4pm. Popular comedians such as Công Lý and Vân Dung will join the campaign, not just to perform their comedy acts, but also to raise community awareness of cancer.

After Bắc Ninh, the campaign will be held in the northern provinces of Quảng Ninh and Thanh Hóa, central Đà Nẵng City, Hà Nội and HCM City. — VNS
