HCM CITY – Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport’s customs officials said yesterday that they arrested a Vietnamese-Australian passenger for allegedly transporting 14 cakes of heroin from Việt Nam to Australia.

The city’s police, in co-operation with the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department and the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Police Department, discovered 14 cakes of heroin weighing nearly 5 kilogrammes hidden in the woman’s luggage.

At the initial investigation, the woman admitted that she was paid US$25,000 to transport this amount of heroin to Australia. The price of the heroin was estimated to reach $750,000.

The case is under further investigation. — VNS
