ĐỒNG NAI — Đồng Nai Police’s Economic Crime Investigation Department discovered 300kg of smuggled Chinese fireworks while inspecting packages being transported from Hà Nội Station to Hố Nai Station in this southern province.

The fireworks were hidden under scraps of fabric and packages of herbal medicine, police said.

The police have identified the expected recipient as a man named Tâm, who lives in Bạc Liêu Province.

Tâm told the police he had been asked by a trader from Hà Nội to accept the goods and deliver them to another trader in HCM City.

Police seized all the smuggled fireworks and worked with Tâm to identify the owner of the goods.

Last Thursday, police in Đồng Nai Province found seven carriages on the Hà Nội-Hố Nai Station route transporting smuggled goods without invoices. All the goods were hidden in hundreds of parcels weighing a total of 70 tonnes, worth many billions of đồng.

Police are continuing to investigate the case. — VNS
