ĐÀ NẴNG — Đà Nẵng will supervise travel of dump trucks on main roads in Cẩm Lệ and Hòa Vang district after three people were killed between February 20 and March 3.
City People’s Committee Chairman Hùynh Đức Thơ made the statement during a meeting with districts’ administrations, the Department of Transport and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
He said traffic lights, camera systems and traffic signs should be installed to limit dump trucks’ violations. Strict control and supervision over dump trucks and trucks in the area was also needed.
The city’s party secretary, Nguyễn Xuân Anh, said the city would dismiss leaders of departments and districts if traffic accidents in the area could not be controlled.
Roundabouts at Cách Mạng Tháng Tám - Nguyễn Hữu Thọ - Nguyễn Tri Phương bridge are crowded blind spots that can result in traffic accidents, with about 450 trucks travelling through them each hour.
The traffic police department gave out fines for 566 dump truck violations in the area between December and February, but strict speed control measures have not yet been set up.
The department said most violations were for speeding, careless passing and driving in the wrong lane.
