HÀ NỘI — The General Statistics Office said it will conduct a Census on Population and Houses starting from April 1 to evaluate the implementation of the socio-economic development plan for 2021-2025 and draw up a plan for 2026-2030.

The census will measure district-level demographical changes in five years from the last survey in 2019 to update population data and analyse population trends between 2020 to 2024.

The census will cover all provinces and cities across the country except four island districts, namely Bạch Long Vỹ, Cồn Cỏ, Hoàng Sa, and Trường Sa.

The method used in the survey is computer-assisted personal interviewing, and the data to be collected comprise permanent residents, armed forces personnel, and foreigners living in households.

By definition, a household can be a single person living alone or a group of people living together that are not necessarily related by blood or marriage and do not necessarily share incomes and expenses.

It is required that inquirers will interview the household head to collect data on his/her household. If the household head is unavailable for an interview, they will interview another adult who has information on the other members.

If the household head has no details of a certain member, inquirers will meet the member in person to collect his/her information. If in-person access to the member is not possible, a self-completed questionnaire will be sent to him/her for data collection.

The census will encompass data on seven topics: demographic details of household members, migration status, marital status, education background, birth history of females aged from 10 to 49, deaths in households, and living conditions.

Three types of questionnaires will be employed to collect the data. Data collection will take place from April 1 to 30, and will be published between November and December 2024.

Analysis reports on the census will be available in 2025. —VNS
