HCM CITY - HCM City's Tân Sơn Nhất Airport has requested permission from city authorities to keep open a taxi parking lot built for Lunar New Year crowds until holidays in late April.

Nguyễn Nam Tiến, deputy director of the airport, said that thanks to the parking lot, even during the busiest days of the Lunar New Year, there were still enough taxis to serve all passengers.

The airport served 80,000-95,000 passengers a day during the Lunar New Year holiday, and it anticipates handling an average of 52,000 passengers per day during the upcoming Reunification Day (April 30) and Labour Day (May 1) holidays.

Vietnamese will enjoy a five-day break, from April 29 to May 3, as the Hùng Kings anniversary celebration falls on April 29, which is a Saturday, and people are entitled to take two extra days off the following week to compensate for that and the Reunification Day on Sunday.

The airport is likely to become a traffic hotspot for HCM City during holidays.

The Southern Airport Authority's temporary taxi area on a 3,500-square-metre plot of land next to the international terminal's entrance and the corner of Bạch Đằng, Trường Sơn, and Hồng Hà streets in Tân Bình District made a significant contribution to ensuring a sufficient supply of taxis.

With the parking lot outside, taxis and ride-hailing vehicles would be arranged to stop by the parking lot before going to the terminals to pick up guests, reducing congestion. VNS
