THANH HÓA — Every Tuesday at 6.30 am, porridge and warm milk are sent to the patients at the Mường Lát District Hospital.
The food, full of love and nutrition, is jointly prepared by soldiers of the Tén Tằn Border Guard Station and the Mường Lát District Youth Union.
They hope the food will warm the patients' hearts, support them in overcoming difficulties and help them feel secure during their diseases.
To have a delicious porridge pot, soldiers from the border guards carefully choose the rice, pig bones, pork, pumpkin and other spices.
The cooking starts at 3 am every Tuesday.
The youth union members and soldiers care for the fire, and volunteers bring it to the hospital.
As for young children or seriously ill patients, volunteers will bring the porridge to their beds and encourage them in their treatment.
Hơ Thị Lụa, from Pù Toong Village, Pù Nhi Commune, Mường Lát District, said that her son was under treatment at the hospital.
Her family has few members and is poor.
"Receiving delicious porridge from the Border Guards, I'm very happy. The porridge has warmed my heart so I can take care of my son better," she said.
Nguyễn Văn Trung, head of the Surgical Ward under the hospital, said that the porridge was meaningful not only for the poor people in Mường Lát District but also helped many patients from Laos.
After nearly six months, the porridge delivery programme has spread love to the local ethnic groups and has connected the army force and people in the border areas.
They not only firmly protect the national border security and sovereignty in the most remote and difficult areas of Thanh Hóa Province, the Tén Tằn Border Guard Station also organised meaningful work, contributing to socio-economic development and consolidating solidarity between the army force and locals.
Besides the porridge delivery programme, soldiers from the Tén Tằn Border Guard Station also detailed a study curriculum.
The curriculum is suitable for students of different ages and is easy to understand and remember.
The curriculum is used to teach students in different schools in Mường Lát District by soldiers in coordination with teachers.
During the lesson, students learn about territorial sovereignty and national border security protection.
The lesson helps students understand their forefathers' traditional history of protecting the national border.
Through these lessons, students determine their roles and responsibilities in studying, training, strictly observing the law, and actively participating in territorial sovereignty and national border security protection.
The station also conducts a programme to cut hair free for students and residents. The programme is conducted once a week.
The model has great significance because it is difficult to travel around the border area.
Senior Colonel Thịnh Văn Kiên, a Politician of the Tén Tằn Border Guard Station, said that over the years, the station had had many good and effective models to help people and students.
These simple but humane actions have a great impact, creating a beautiful image of the soldiers in the locals' hearts and strengthening the friendship between the army and the people.
It also warms soldiers' hearts and creates synergy among the people to work with the border guards to protect the country's border. — VNS
